Wed 23 March

Wednesday 23 March  Today we visited Jerash one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. A lot of walking but a most astounding place to see. It is a great example of the Roman urbanism that is found throughout the Middle East.  Not only was it interesting but as there were a lot of school girls visiting the site that day they provided us with a lot of entertainment.  They sang for us and then had us dancing in the amphitheatre and of course they were all keen to have their photo taken with me.  I thought it was taboo for men to touch these girls and it was suggested that I was now married to them but that was unfortunately untrue. The people of Jordan are very friendly and helpful. They have been devastated by the drop off in tourism due to the situations in the countries surrounding them.  A great nation in a bad neighbourhood.
After lunch we drove to the city of Amman and visited the Roman Theatre and Nymphaeum and the Citadel overlooking the city of Amman.  Amman is a busy and interesting city and we felt very safe walking around the streets. Stopped at the most popular sweet shop in Amman to taste their famous sweet called Kunefe.   Great day in a wonderful place.

How did they build these things 2000 years ago

Note the selfie stick

All the girls had Iphone 6s and were mad on taking selfies and photos with us
