Wednesday 20 April. Zimbabwe. Stayed in the beautiful old English Victoria Hotel and did a
morning tour of the falls, very wet by the end even with the ponchos they supplied and in the
evening a sunset cruise on the Zambezi river. All lovely but Zimbabwe is a dreadful place and is a
basket case. They do not have their own currency any more and everything is in $US. They are all
very poor but they are nice people with an idiot for a President, common in Africa I am afraid to
say.
Thursday 21st April. Drove over the Zambezi river to Zambia and on to the only town in Zambia,
Livingston to catch flight to Nairobi to start our Kenya trip. Crossing the Zimbabwe and the Zambia
borders had its moments. You have to pay a $40 per person fee to go into Zambia to drive an hour
to their very new and pleasant Airport. However, we were informed that there is officially no fee but
the money goes to the border people. Don't pay and you don't get a visa. Welcome to Africa.
